Aussie Law

24 Apr

Tomorrow is Anzac Day, the Australian version of Memorial Day. We are planning to go downtown and check out the ceremonies. I went online to see if our favorite restaurant would be open and what I found surprised me. There are national laws that prohibit stores from being open on certain day. There are exceptions, but retail stores cannot be open on Christmas, Good Friday, Easter and until 1:00pm on Anzac Day.

Can you imagine if the US tried to do something like that? It would be inconceivable. What if we needed to go to Target on Easter for last minute peeps?

Well, you know, our country used to be closed voluntarily on those days
