Great Time at the Great Barrier Reef

30 Oct

We got home a few hours ago from Cairns. We had a great time. On Sunday we went on our reef cruise. We saw tons of coral, bright fish, a sea turtle, a sting ray and lots of giant clams. It was amazing. I took lots of drugs and didn’t feel sea sick at all. On Monday we rented a car and drove up to Daintree where we took a crocodile cruise on the Daintree River. The river runs through the Daintree Rainforest, which is the oldest rainforest on the planet. We did see one crocodile that was about 10 feet long. The guide told us that a crocodile only needs 150 calories a day to live. So they only feed every 6 weeks or so. I guess you really have to win the “horrible luck” lottery to be eaten by a crocodile. After Daintree we stopped at a few coastal towns and saw the beaches. It was beautiful.

Trip highlights: Rob found a $50 bill on the ground, Great Barrier Reef, Saltwater Crocodile

Trip lowlight: a fruit bat dropped a mango on my head. Really. It was so strange, it had grabbed a mango off a tree, but obviously it was too heavy and I was just standing in the wrong place at the wrong time. It hurt.

Great photos! Did you buy a disposable underwater camera?
